Big SIR
Greetings fellow SIRs
It was good to see so many members at the July meeting. We don't usually hold a luncheon meeting in July, but since the picnic was held in June, we went ahead and scheduled the July meeting.... The speaker, Sonia Lo gave an excellent presentation on the current challenges in food production and new, interesting possibilities for the future. From feedback of members who attended, the presentation was well received...
At the meeting, we awarded Joe Hernandes with a Distinguished Service award. Joe undertook the major tasks of managing both the June BBQ at the Fair and the December Dinner/Dance at Castlewood over many years. He handled EVERY detail for each from planning, ticket sales, negotiation with both venues and in the case of the picnic, purchased all the food and paper supplies, and coordinating all the workers to handle the various jobs of getting the food on the buffet line. Thanks for your service Joe!
We also thanked and awarded Jim Benham with a former Big SIR badge for his service. He joins former Big SIRs Bill Staack and Bill Junge who received their badges at the June meeting.
In the recruiter of the year status at the July meeting, we had 8 SIRs who had each recruited one new member... these being: Mike Kurtz, Ivan Morse, Gary Kohler, John Ropp, Nick Patel, John Peterson, John Roberts and Mike Melvin. John Ropp submitted a request for a second new member, Alan Geary who was approved to join at the July Board meeting, so John Ropp is in the lead currently! Welcome Alan.... we are glad to have you as an active new member....
So far, we have had a good response to our survey with 49 members submitting so far. If you haven't responded, please get back to us with your feedback. We will have a few hard copy survey forms at the August meeting for those who prefer responding with a paper copy. Looking forward to seeing you at the August meeting.....

REDUCE CHILD GUN DEATHS and TEEN SUICIDES
Attend this important presentation You don’t need to wait for our representatives to “do something” about gun violence. Learn what we all can do right now. Learn to “Be SMART for Kids.” It’s about responsible gun storage, speaking to our kids about guns, recognizing warning signs and get the word out in your community. “Be SMART: is a presentation and conversation about kids, guns and safety”—delivered by volunteers from the national organization, Everytown for Gun Sense in America.
When it comes to kids’ safety, we’re all in this together!
