Big Sir  Bevin  Hong

May is a great month to get moving again.  The weather is better, the days are longer, and it’s a perfect time to get out of the house and stay active - physically and socially.

One of the best things about SIR is that it gives us plenty of opportunities to do both.  Whether it’s golf, cards, bocce, coffee, beer or wine meetups, or just coming to the luncheon, every activity is really about the same thing: staying connected and enjoying life with a good group of friends.  Many of our activities are co-ed, and wives and significant others are always welcome—especially at our luncheons.

You don’t have to do everything.  But I’d encourage each of you to pick one thing this month - try a new activity, bring a friend, or simply show up and sit with someone you haven’t talked to before.  Small steps like that are what keep our branch strong.

Let’s make the most of the spring season and keep the momentum going.

See you at the next luncheon!

Thank you for being part of SIR.

A Note From Your Little Sir

Our speaker for May will be Judith Pierce the Public Education Officer for Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District. This is your chance to learn more than you ever wanted to know about mosquitoes in Alameda County.

She will do an overview of the mosquito life cycle, ways to decrease mosquito sources, new mosquito's and potential diseases that have arrived in our area and new technologies they are using to control mosquitoes.

Should be an informative and educational discussion .  Look forward to seeing everyone on May 7th.

It's dues collection time!

Thanks to all members who respond to the monthly email asking whether or not you plan to attend the upcoming meeting.  Your timely responses help me provide the Wedgewood staff with an estimated headcount so they can purchase food and prepare the room for our luncheon meeting.

Once a month we have poker night at a volunteer host home between 6:00 to 10:00 pm on the third Tuesday or Thursday. Since we play 7 card games the signups are limited to 7 players on an email announcement with first responders first. Hosts supply simple snacks, poker table, cards and chips. If necessary there’s a lot of participants that can loan these items upon request.

Announcements are e-mailed out each month or scheduled for several weeks in advance. New participants will have priority for the first several months. If you’re unfamiliar with any of the games, each can be explained or you can observe. Each participant starts with $20 worth of chips. Bets are $0.25 to start with three possible $0.50 raises for each dealing. Last bets are up to $1.00 with three raises.

Games we play, by dealer choice: 5 card draw, 7 card with wild card variations, Omaha, Anaconda, Baseball, Heaven and Hell, Tic tac Doe, Plus others via dealers choice.  Please call me at 925 337 3677 if you wish to play or just inquire.
