Greetings fellow SIRs
Hard to believe that August is here and the kids are back at school already. We’ve had a decent summer weather-wise. The golf and bocce groups have enjoyed the pleasant weather so far.
As we move towards the holidays, we will soon announce plans for our Christmas luncheon that will be held on Thursday, December 7th. The luncheon will be similar to last year’s successful event with spouses and significant others invited. Look out for announcements shortly.
We continue to look for a volunteer for a Little SIR for next year. If interested, please contact John Roberts or myself…

We have another exciting speaker lined up for September 7 thanks to our member, Chris Haynam.
On December 5th, 2022 scientists at the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory demonstrated a breakthrough in nuclear fusion. Driven by an immense laser system, they created a nuclear fusion reaction that produced more energy than the laser energy used to drive it. The six-decade long pursuit of fusion ignition in the laboratory is one of the most significant scientific challenges ever tackled by humanity, and achieving it is a triumph of science. The NIF laser systems chief engineer, Jean-Michel Di Nicola, will discuss the science and technology behind this accomplishment.
