SIR 34 August Newsletter
Big SIR
Jack Parker
August is here and that means that our summer is already half over. Our Sir year is even farther along.
July was a very active month. The beer group had a most successful event at the Benham home, Bocce is twice a month on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays. No experience required. Plenty of room for additional players. If you are interested in any of the activities, but have questions, contact me.
Just a reminder that we need to bring guests to each meeting. It’s important to grow the club. If you enjoy Sir 34, then you can be sure that your friends will also
The elections for the new Board of Directors will be held next month. Anyone interested should contact me as soon as possible. We are looking for a Little Sir for next year. I remember that when I agreed to be the Little Sir, I was concerned that I knew too few members. Serving as Little Sir & then Big Sir has given me the opportunity to meet members I might not have otherwise known. The position requires very little time or effort. We have a long list of Past Big Sir’s who are happy to help out.
So give it some thought, it can be a very interesting experience.
Contact me @ [email protected] or 925-846-2416
Quick note: Concerts in the Park will continue thru August every Friday evening 7PM

WINE TASTING
LARRY LINDSEY
First a big thanks Steve Annen and his side kick Nancy for hosting the July wine tasting. It was very hot July night but all had a cool time on the back patio with lots of wine, good food and fellowship.
The theme was "Wine With Unusual Labels" Here are a few. Plus a couple of photos or the Wine Shirt Twins.

In August we will be meeting at Tom & Gail Crawford's home in Livermore on Tuesday August 15th at 6:30. The Crawford's have a great venue for summer events in the back yard of their home. If you have not been there you should try to make it or if you have been there you should also try to make it. Tom will be letting me know the wine of selection and I will pass that on to group. To acknowledge your participation e-mail [email protected] or contact the Crawford's directly.

BRIDGE
CHUCK BROWN
The Bridge Group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Hacienda Motor Home Park
On Vineyard Ave. in Pleasanton. In July we had three tables and the winner was: Chuck Brown
In August, we will be meeting on Tuesday the 8th.
I have been informed by the Homeowners Assoc. that effective January 1st 2018 we will no longer be able to use their facility for our bridge games. If anyone is aware of a location we could meet (hopefully free) please let me know or this may be the end of the bridge group.
Dance Carl Churilo
Even though it’s been really hot lately, the dance group is still going strong. The dance venues listed below are all Air Conditioned and most have huge ceiling fans as well. So, no excuse that it is too hot to dance. Come out and join us and if you want to learn a few simple steps we can help.
Below are dance places which I feel are very good and reasonably priced:
Rossmoor Senior Community: last Sunday of the month, great dance floor, DJ music, and a is only $5 per person.
Merry Mixers at the Elks Club in Walnut Creek: twice a month – 1st and 3th Friday of each month, live band, smaller dance floor but fun.
Castle Rock Restaurant, Livermore: every Sunday and Tuesday night. Live band.
Two Left Feet, Danville, every Sunday afternoon, DJ music, and nice dance floor.
If you are interested in joining us let Carl know: 925-967-8177, email [email protected] or go to http://ballroombayarea.wordpress.com/2016/03/03/may-2016 for dance events all over the Bay area.

Poker
Jim Benham
This is a fun causal game, come join us some time. We usually meet on the last Tuesday, first hand at 6pm, last at 10pm, come Heaven or (Hell) high water. The poker club met at Jack Parker's house on Tuesday, July 25. We had 7 players, a couple of guys went home a bit richer and a few more left with half empty pockets. To paraphrase an old Brooklyn adage; "Wait Til Next Month!"
