October 2018 SIR 34 Newsletter
October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins.... Merry October! ~

Big SIR
Adrian Verduzco
Welcome to October everyone.
Well September is behind us and fall is here. Please keep in mind the annual Christmas party at Castlewood on Thursday December 6. Tickets will be sold at both October and November lunches. It’s a great evening and I hope you are able to attend. See flyer here
For our new members remember to get involved with some of the many activities that our branch has to offer. It’s a great way of making new friends and making our retirement days enjoyable. Also, for all of us, think about volunteering to help out during lunches and special events. Volunteering will help our branch stay healthy. It takes many people to make our lunches enjoyable. So try it you might like it.
See you at the Lunch.
Thank you
Adrian Verduzco
Little SIR
Jim Benham
Guest Speaker
Our speaker in October will talk on Irish Whiskies. Unfortunately Big Frank had a conflict so he is sending an alternate.
Treasurer's Report
Tom Reif
Please note: If you come in late for a meeting and there is no one at the table to buy a lunch ticket, please check the sign at the table to see where a treasurer (Wendell Moen, Jack Ogden or Tom Reif) is sitting and buy your ticket. Thanks for your help.
Lunch
Ron Jensen
Please note, there is NO need to inform the attendance chair whether you will be absent from this meeting or any other meeting. If you have a conflict and cannot attend, you will marked as absent from that luncheon by the fact that you did not use your badge that month.

GOLF
Jim Kenna We need volunteers to backup our committee members including handicap chairman, scheduling, communication and membership. With about 60 members it seems we should be able to come up with backups for all these functions. None of these roles are complex and time demands would all be minimal as a backup. Contact Jim Kenna on 925 989 9062 if you are willing to help. Still working to have a luncheon at our October 22 outing at Dublin Ranch. |

September Wine tasting
Many thanks to Carol and Robin Little for hosting the September wine outing. We had a great time. Robin had us talking about our wine selections, the weather was great, the Little's back yard is a great venue and as has become the norm, the food was outstanding.
October Wine Event
Our October wine trip to Jackson, Plymouth and Amador wine country is set for Thursday, October 11th. We have 17 couples going on the trip. Steve Annen has done a great job in selecting three wineries that we will be visiting. The first is Cooper Vineyards at 21365 Shenandoah Rd, Karmere Winery at 1970 Shenandoah Rd and the third is Youngs Vineyards at 10120 Shenandoah Rd. All three wineries are in Plymouth. Our wine day starts at Cooper Vineyard at 10:30 am. You should allow between 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get there from Pleasanton.
We plan on having lunch at Karmere Winery. If you do not want to bring a lunch you can order a wine tour box lunch from Amador Village Market in Plymouth. Go to www.gerhsogaard.com, click Village Market, scroll down to wine tour lunch. This will give you your choice of a sandwich that includes chips and a cookie. I would suggest you place your order 1 or 2 days before. Call 1-209-245-3663 or order on line. Our last winery is Youngs Vineyard. After we are through there you can go to another winery of your choice or go on to Jackson and check into your room at the National Hotel on 2 Water St. in Jackson.
Looking forward to having a great time.

Dance Club
Carl Churilo
The dancing still goes on and there are plenty of places to go out and become a hero to your spouse. As you all know, women love to dance, so why not take them to one of the places mention below and have a great time together.
The following are places to go Dancing which my opinion are very good and reasonably prices:

The following are places to go Dancing which my opinion are very good and reasonably prices:
- Rossmoor Senior Community: last Sunday of the month, great dance floor, DJ music, and a is only $5 per person.
- Merry Mixers at the Elks Club in Walnut Creek: twice a month – 1st and 3th Friday of each month, live band, smaller dance floor but fun.
- Castle Rock Restaurant, Livermore: every Sunday and Tuesday night. Live band.
- Two Left Feet, Danville, every Sunday afternoon, DJ music, and nice dance floor.
