Gary Kohler Big Sir

President/Big SIR, Gary Kohler:

President's notes:

Happy August Brothers!

Hope you all are enjoying time with friends and family.
It was great to see so many of you at our annual picnic with your significant others in July. Always the social event of the season.

At our August luncheon we will be joined by Fred Serena, who has recently been promoted from his previous position as our Regional Coach over several nearby East Bay SIR Chapters, to his new position as VP over the entire Statewide SIR organization. Please take the opportunity to visit with him Thursday.
He will be in a great position to help us make Tri-Valley SIR an even better organization and ensure that we are providing you a valuable experience within our SIR Chapter.

We recently purchased an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) that I will be bringing to the luncheons. Activity Chairs and activity hosts are encouraged to request it for your events, especially if you are at event venues that do not have their own AED yet. Later in the year we will offer training options for this and CPR that we will roll out to the Board and Activity Chairs and then to any of you that are interested. Stay tuned for announcements over the next few months.

We will be hosting a recruitment booth at the Pleasanton Farmers Market in October. Please let me know if you are able to help us man the table for an hour or two. In any case, we will let you know which exact Saturday it is, so you can stop by and show your support, and/or let your friends and neighbors know about it, so they may take the first step towards becoming a member.

In the meantime,

Stay cool and hydrated guys!!

Once a month we have poker night at a volunteer host home between 6:00 to 10:00 pm on the third Tuesday or Thursday. Since we play 7 card games the signups are limited to 7 players on an email announcement with first responders first. Hosts supply simple snacks, poker table, cards and chips. If necessary there’s a lot of participants that can lone these items upon request.

Announcements are e-mailed out each month or scheduled for several weeks in advance. New participants will have priority for the first several months. If you’re unfamiliar with any of the games, each can be explained or you can observe. Each participant starts with $20 worth of chips. Bets are $0.25 to start with three possible $0.50 raises for each dealing. Last bets are up to $1.00 with three raises.

Games we play, by dealer choice: 5 card draw, 7 card with wild card variations, Omaha, Anaconda, Baseball, Heaven and Hell, Tic tac Doe, Plus others via dealers choice. There are two openings for April 24th and May 22nd. Please call me at 925 337 3677 if you wish to play or just inquire.
