SIR 34 July 2019 Newsletter
If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.
George Orwell
Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.
Abraham Lincoln
Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.
Dwight D. Eisenhower
America is much more than a geographical fact. It is a political and moral fact - the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom, responsible government, and human equality.
Adlai Stevenson

No meeting in July, we held the annual Picnic on June 28th, next meeting is August 1
Big SIR
Jim Benham
We had another great Picnic this year. Thanks to Steve Annen and Joe Hernandez and their team for their efforts in coordinating the picnic. They did a great job and we appreciate it very much.
I hope everyone has a great July 4th. This is the 243rd celebration and the tradition continues as strong as ever. Fly your flag with honor.
We continue to solicit new members so please keep up your efforts to replace those that have left SIRS for one reason or another. Remember, guests get a free lunch and if they become members, the sponsoring SIR gets a bottle of wine or $20. See you at the meeting in August if not sooner.
Little SIR
Bill Staack
Guest Speaker
Our speaker in August will be Valerie Pryor who is the General Manager for the Zone 7 Water District. I’m sure it will be an interesting discussion about our current water situation after our very wet winter and all the projects and changes happening in our water district.
Treasurer's Report
Tom Reif
Please note: If you come in late for a meeting and there is no one at the table to buy a lunch ticket, please check the sign at the table to see where a treasurer (Wendell Moen, Jack Ogden or Tom Reif) is sitting and buy your ticket. Thanks for your help.

Poker
Bill Junge
Poker was held at Bob Law’s house last Thursday. He was a gracious host, even supplying special cold cuts and snacks. We only had 5 players this time, a good thing because there were 4 winners and me, supporting the whole group. Good thing we didn’t have 7, Junge would have lost more.
Next game is Thursday, July 25th. Place to be determined.
Want to join in on the fun? e-mail Bill at [email protected].
