SIR 34 February 2020 Newsletter
There is always in February some one day, at least, when one smells the yet distant, but surely coming of summer.
February is always a bad month for TV sports. Football is gone, basketball is plodding along in the annual midseason doldrums, and baseball is not even mentioned. Hunter S. Thompson
"I was talking to one of these friends about a father-child activity that Dave is not here to do. We came up with a plan to fill in for Dave. I cried to him, 'But I want Dave. I want option A.' He put his arm around me and said, 'Option A is not available. So let's just kick the crap out of option B.'"

Big SIR
Bill Staack
I'm attending the State Board meeting in Fairfield this month and hope to get some new ideas to improve membership and participation in our various events. This month our Board will consider establishing a new function: Club Communications Director, more on that next month. I the meantime, have fun, do good and be happy.

Little SIR
Bill Junge
Guest Speaker
It’s February already, remember to order those Red Roses for your sweeties.
Your Bill & Bill team muddled through January and we promise to get things rolling quicker and more efficiently this month. Remember that we’re back to the 1st Thursday, February, 6th. Our speaker is really going to be a good one. We are having Sarah Schaefer, from the Museum on Main, Pleasanton, who is kindly bringing information about the “Ghost Walk” and the “History of Alcohol in Pleasanton.” For those of us who have lived in Pleasanton for decades, this should be new and exciting information to ponder.
Treasurer's Report
Tom Reif
Annual Dues Collection Time
Almost everyone that attended our January meeting paid their dues (THANK YOU!) We still have more to go, so at our next meeting on February 6th, we will continue collecting the annual
$20.00 member dues. Checks made out to SIR Branch 34 are preferred and will improve your chances of being credited properly, but cash is also acceptable. It will be helpful to some of
us old guys (like me) if you show us your badge when paying with
cash.
You can also mail your check to: Tom Reif, 2259 Kamp Ct,
Pleasanton 94588
Please note: If you come in late for a meeting and there is no one at the table to buy a lunch ticket, please check the sign at the table to see where a treasurer (Wendell Moen, Jack Ogden or Tom Reif) is sitting and buy your ticket. Thanks for your help.
Schedule changes for future meetings: April 4/9 and November 11/12 both second Thursdays. All other meetings are on the first Thursday of the month.
The changes are because there were conflicts with other functions at Wedgewood.

Poker
Bill Junge
Bob Law kindly hosted the monthly Poker Game. Dennis Alcalde was uncanny. (I still can’t figure out where he pulled some of those cards!) I don’t like playing at Bob Law’s house…I always lose! Maybe it’s because I went to Steve Annen’s beer group before the game.
Next game is scheduled for Thursday, February 27th. Place to be determined. New player are always welcome.
Want to join in on the fun? e-mail Bill at [email protected].

The once a month Breakfast Group
Jim Benham
We had a good turn out for the last breakfast of the year at Vic's. We meet the last Wednesday of the month; the next SIRs Breakfast will be on Wednesday January 29, 2020 at Vic's Allstar Cafe on Main Street in downtown Pleasanton. We meet at 8:30 and wrap up about 10:00. Hope to see you there.
NEW Dinner Club
Jim Benham
We want to gauge interest in starting a once a quarter dinner club. The idea is to meet at a local restaurant for dinner, women are invited as well as single men wanting to get together for good conversation and a good meal. The first restaurants that we are considering are Pasta Trattoria, Andy & Yu"s both in Pleasanton and Zephyrs and Terra Mia in Livermore, not necessarily in that order. We will be looking for restaurants that can accommodate private rooms or areas and individual checks. The first dinner is targeted for March on a Monday or Tuesday evening. . Please send me an e-mail if you are [email protected].
