SIR 34 June 2019 Newsletter
In June as many as a dozen species may burst their buds on a single day. No man can heed all of these anniversaries; no man can ignore all of them.

The summer season is fast approaching. May has been rainy and cold, but I think warmer weather is finally here and hopefully summer weather will prevail. Golf and Bocce should be in full swing. Many of us have grand kids graduating from high schools and colleges this time of the year, congratulations to all of them.
June is the month for our Annual picnic at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. You can still buy tickets at the June Luncheon, tickets are $30. Contact Joe Hernandez or myself and we will make sure you get tickets. It is a great deal, free admission to the fair, lunch with your friends, and if so interested, you can walk next door to the picnic grounds and bet on the ponies. Yes, there is Horse Racing this year on the same day as our picnic. Of course, you can also take a leisurely stroll through the fairgrounds and see the livestock and other attractions.
Due to the picnic, there will be no meeting in July. There is a meeting on Thursday June 6. And we will meet again August 1st.

As always, I encourage our new members to bring a guest for lunch and also get involved with our many activities, which is a great way to know more of your fellow members.

Please note: If you come in late for a meeting and there is no one at the table to buy a lunch ticket, please check the sign at the table to see where a treasurer (Wendell Moen, Jack Ogden or Tom Reif) is sitting and buy your ticket. Thanks for your help.

Poker
Bill Junges
We met May 23rd at Dennis Alcalde’s home , Dennis treated us to sausage and pepper sandwiches and like last month, proceeded to be the big winner. Hopefully we’ll get him next month although I think we may have recruited a card shark. The next game tentatively will be held Thursday, June 27. If interested in joining the poker group, see Bill Junge or Jim Benham. You can e-mail Bill at [email protected].
