SIR 34 March 2018 Newsletter
March is the month God created to show people who don't drink what a hangover is like.

Happy March everyone.
March is a great month with the restart of Daylight Savings Time, St. Patrick Day and the beginning of Spring. Warmer days are coming soon.
2018 marks the 60th anniversary of SIR. The organization has 120 branches and 14,000 members, with branches covering the area from Bakersfield to the Oregon border. We should keep in mind the SIR Mission statement. “The Mission of SIR to improve the lives of our members through fun activities and events while making friends for life.” Our branch does a great job with fulfilling this mission. Let’s keep up the good work.
As we always mention, it’s vital to the health of our branch to keep bringing guest to our lunches. I encourage our new members to bring a guest for lunch and also get involved with activities, which is a great way to know more of your fellow members.
See all of you at the next lunch.
Adrian Verduzco
Little SIR
Jim Benham
Guest Speaker
Our speaker this month is Dr. Richard G. Caro, CEO, Co-founder of Tech-enhanced Life. Tech Enhanced Life researches and explores ways technology can help older adults and their families discover useful tools and techniques to make the challenges of growing older less challenging.
Treasurer's Report
Tom Reif
Lunch Price for March is increasing to $25
Starting in March, the lunch cost will increase to $25 as noted in previous announcements.
Annual Dues Collection Time Continues
Almost everyone has paid their dues (THANK YOU!) We still have 20 more to go, so at our next meeting on March 1st, we will continue collecting the annual $20.00 member dues. Checks made out to SIR Branch 34 are preferred and will improve your chances of being credited properly, but cash is also acceptable. It will be helpful to some of us old guys (like me) if you show us your badge when paying with cash.
You can also mail your check to: Tom Reif, 2259 Kamp Ct, Pleasanton 94588
Please note: If you come in late for a meeting and there is no one at the table to buy a lunch ticket, please check the sign at the table to see where a treasurer (Wendell Moen, Jack Ogden or Tom Reif) is sitting and buy your ticket. Thanks for your help.
Lunch
Ron Jensen
There is an important change in the policy for reporting absence from our SIR luncheons. Starting in March, there is NO need to inform the attendance chair whether you will be absent from this meeting or any other meeting.
If you have a conflict and cannot attend, you will marked as absent from that luncheon by the fact that you did not use your badge that month.
Otherwise PLEASE SHOW UP FOR THE LUNCHEONS.

Wine Tasting
Larry Lindsey
I want to again thank Randy & Barb Reber and Joe &Irma Hernandez for a great Valentines Day wine tasting. Everyone had a great time. The chocolate dipped strawberries and cake were outstanding.

Wine tasting for March will be hosted by Buck & Joanne Helsel on Tuesday, March 13th at 6:30. Buck and Joanne live in the Stoneridge Creek Retirement Community on Stoneridge Drive. They have reserved a room in the main facility for our event. The maximum occupancy for the room is 40 people. Once I have received responses from 40 people I will cut off the list. I will keep a waiting list of all who respond in case someone drops out. The Helsel’s have asked that we bring wine from the Napa, Sonoma area.
The attendant at the entrance gate will have a list of those attending and will check you off as you come in. Once inside the gate go toward the main building. There is parking around the circle and to the left side. Additional parking is on the street leading up to the entrance gate where you can park and have a short walk through the gate to the main building. Or ask the attendant to have a shuttle pick you up. Since parking is somewhat limited I would suggest that you try to double up.
