SIR Branch 34 March Newsletter
Big SIR
Jack Parker
We are all glad that the Drought is over, but the rain has played havoc with our Golfers & Bocce players. Let’s all hope for an early spring. Just a reminder that we do have many active groups besides golf. Check out the White Board that is at the meeting for contact information about all activities.
The Mission of Sons in Retirement is to improve the lives of our members through fun activities and events while creating friends for life. I have also been a member of Rotary for over 25 years. Their Mission is Service above self. There lies the difference. Sir is social, not service. It came to my attention when last month, one of our newer members asked the speaker about donating to her cause. Later she then asked for other information so that she could send brochures to be put on the tables. We explained that we couldn’t do as she asked, as it violated our bylaws. We did share her information with the member who requested it.
As an organization, Sir does not solicit funds, support politicians, or allow speakers who are attempting to sell services, etc. We meet to have fun and enjoy each other’s company. Newer members cannot be expected to know this unless we share it with them.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to support worthy causes. I hope that we all do. Speakers usually hang around after the meeting is over to meet with members who want to ask further questions. That would be the time offer any help.
Another Quote from Will Rogers;
“I don’t know how I got over the hill without getting to the top”.

Dance Carl Churilo
We been busy again this month. I found a new place to go dancing and it is at Rossmoor Senior Center in Walnut Creek. They hold a dance on the 4th Sunday of every month from 7pm to 9pm. The music is provided by a DJ and they play a complete mix of music from Waltz, to Swing, to Foxtrot, Tango,and even West Coast Swing. You name it they will play it and they even have a screen that tells you what the next 3 dances will be. The floor is huge and there no poles to dance around. But the best thing about it is the cost: $5.00. Also at, Two Left Feet in Danville there is a dance party on the first Saturday of the month. They too have a nice floor and play a various music to dance to. If this is not enough you can always join us the Marriott Hotel in Walnut Creek on Friday or Saturday nights. If you are interested in joining us, let me know, Carl: 925-967-8177 or email me at [email protected] or go to the below Website for dance events all over the Bay area.
