SIR 34 March 2019 Newsletter
March came in that winter like the meekest and mildest of lambs, bringing days that were crisp and golden and tingling, each followed by a frosty pink twilight which gradually lost itself in an elfland of moonshine.

Big SIR
Jim Benham
We have gotten our fair share of rain this season. No more drought. In August we will have the GM of Zone 7 Water Board as our guest speaker and we'll get a recap of the rainy season and how the water table is recovering.
Soon the rain will stop and bocce will start up again at the senior center and the golfers will be able to use carts and not worry about getting rained out. We will all be eating Corned Beef and Cabbage and wearing our green on March 17 in celebration of St Patrick who drove the snakes out of Ireland. There never were any snakes in Ireland, the snakes refer to the pagan Druids and St Patrick's success in converting the pagans into Christians.
As we always mention, it’s vital to the health of our branch to keep bringing guests to our lunches and hopefully they will become members. I encourage our new members to bring a guest for lunch and also get involved with activities, which is a great way to know more of your fellow members.
Little SIR
Bill Staack
Guest Speaker
Our Guest Speaker this month is Big Frank, we will see what alcoholic specialty he will be serving up.

Annual Dues Collection Time Continues
Almost everyone has paid their dues (THANK YOU!) We still have a few more to go, so at our next meeting in March we will continue collecting the annual $20.00 member dues. Checks made out to SIR Branch 34 are preferred and will improve your chances of being credited properly, but cash is also acceptable. It will be helpful to some of us old guys (like me) if you show us your badge when paying with cash.
You can also mail your check to: Tom Reif, 2259 Kamp Ct, Pleasanton 94588
Please note: If you come in late for a meeting and there is no one at the table to buy a lunch ticket, please check the sign at the table to see where a treasurer (Wendell Moen, Jack Ogden or Tom Reif) is sitting and buy your ticket. Thanks for your help.
Lunch
Ron Jensen
There is an important change in the policy for reporting absence from our SIR luncheons. Starting in March, there is NO need to inform the attendance chair whether you will be absent from this meeting or any other meeting.
If you have a conflict and cannot attend, you will marked as absent from that luncheon by the fact that you did not use your badge that month.
Otherwise PLEASE SHOW UP FOR THE LUNCHEONS.

Seems it has been raining every weekend or is all week. Turnouts have been understandably light and courses have been extremely forgiving. Hopefully spring will arrive on time or even a couple of weeks early would be much appreciated. I got cabin fever.

Wine Tasting
Larry Lindsey
A big thanks again to Joe Hernandez and Randy Reber for their time an effort in doing the wine tasting event for February. It was a great valentines day celebration, we all had a good time. This the second year they have done this and hope they can do it again next year. Thank your Joe and Irma and Randy and Barb.
This month our wine tasting event will be at Mike and Donna Melvins home. It will be a Saint Patricks Day celebration with Irish wine and Irish appetizers. That is if we can all find Irish wine and a recipe for Irish appetizers. I am sure some will. Thank you Mike and Donna for hosting this months wine tasting.

We had a great time at Shadow Puppet in February. In March we are going to Field Works brewery in San Ramon. It is located at the north east corner of the new shopping center called the city center on Bollinger Canyon. You can park near by. It is a great brewery with a wide selection of beers. Bring the ladies, if they get bored with beer they can always go shopping. It’s a great new upscale shopping center. There are food trucks nearby. We will meet on Thursday March 21 at 3PM. Note the earlier time since this is a popular place for folks to go after work (remember that 4 letter word). See you there Steve

We played poker in February at Dale Bowman's house. We have changed the date for SIRs Poker to the second Wednesday of each month. The next poker game will be March 13 and we have a full house. The April game will be Wednesday, April 10.
Bocce
Steve Annen
Our next Bocce outing will be on Tues March 5th at 2 pm at Rubino winery. We played at Rubino last month, the court was dry enough to play. Maybe the senior center will be okay by the end of March? Bring light snacks that go with wine if you like. See you there Steve
