November 2018 SIR 34 Newsletter
In November, the smell of food is different. It is an orange smell. A squash and pumpkin smell. It tastes like cinnamon and can fill up a house in the morning, can pull everyone from bed in a fog. Food is better in November than any other time of the year.

Big SIR
Adrian Verduzco
Welcome to November everyone.
November brings the beginning of the Holiday season. This month we celebrate two holidays, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. It’s the time to give thanks to all our veterans and to our friends and family for our blessings throughout the year.
November is the last luncheon month for the year as we have the Christmas party at Castlewood on December 6. So the November lunch will be the last time to purchase tickets for this event. It’s a great evening and I hope you are able to attend.
I would like to thank our members that brought guests to our lunches this year. By welcoming guests to our lunches they can discover what SIR is all about and hopefully decide to join our group.
See you at the Lunch.
Thank you
Adrian Verduzco
Little SIR
Jim Benham
Guest Speaker
Our November speaker will be one our own members, Phil Stage. Phil is a retired US Army Colonel and his talk will be on his experiences when he served as the Deputy Commander, Combined Joint Civil Military Task Force, Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1977-98. The conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina ended in 1995 and resulted in 250,000 deaths, massive internal displacement, and the exodus of one million refugees. The new country faced many problems, similar to other from war devastated territories, such as a broken economy, great numbers of displaced people, a need for a new political order and institutions to name a few. Phil was involved in the post war reconstruction.
Treasurer's Report
Tom Reif
Please note: If you come in late for a meeting and there is no one at the table to buy a lunch ticket, please check the sign at the table to see where a treasurer (Wendell Moen, Jack Ogden or Tom Reif) is sitting and buy your ticket. Thanks for your help.
Lunch
Ron Jensen
Please note, there is NO need to inform the attendance chair whether you will be absent from this meeting or any other meeting. If you have a conflict and cannot attend, you will marked as absent from that luncheon by the fact that you did not use your badge that month.

GOLF
Jim Kenna In October we had some nice outings including our 3rd annual golf and barbecue lunch event with prize money for the top 3 foursomes. November's schedule has some nice venues including Hiddenbrooke a new course for us with range balls a box lunch and a sleeve of balls. November is also the start of annual club and NCGA dues renewal time. I also want to acknowledge two of our newer members - Scot Paulson and Dave Wilmore - for volunteering to assist with committee functions. Scot and Dave stay tuned. Finally, I plan to distribute the 2019 schedule in the next week or two. |
our Hole in One Hero Ron Jensen, congratulations!

37 members of the wine group had a great time last week tasting wine in Plymouth. Steve Annen picked out three great wineries that we went to. We stayed in the National Hotel in Jackson and had dinner at the hotel restaurant. We all had a good time and were able to visit with all that were on the trip. This is a fun event that the wine group puts together this time of year. We will try to pick another interesting and fun place for next year. lf anybody has any suggestions please let me know. We have started a History Club. For those of you who are history buffs this club might be of interest to you. We meet every second Wednesday of the month at 10am (next one Wednesday November 14th), for the moment at the Corner Bakery Café near intersection of Bernal and Valley near I-680. We have a list of topics we want to explore and are currently working on Civil War stories. Please join us if you are interested and bring a fact or two with you to share.

Dance Club
Carl Churilo
The dancing still goes on and there are plenty of places to go out and become a hero to your spouse. As you all know, women love to dance, so why not take them to one of the places mention below and have a great time together.
The following are places to go Dancing which my opinion are very good and reasonably prices:

The following are places to go Dancing which my opinion are very good and reasonably prices:
- Rossmoor Senior Community: last Sunday of the month, great dance floor, DJ music, and a is only $5 per person.
- Merry Mixers at the Elks Club in Walnut Creek: twice a month – 1st and 3th Friday of each month, live band, smaller dance floor but fun.
- Castle Rock Restaurant, Livermore: every Sunday and Tuesday night. Live band.
- Two Left Feet, Danville, every Sunday afternoon, DJ music, and nice dance floor.
