SIR 34 October Newsletter
Big SIR
Jack Parker
It’s hard to believe that fall has arrived. Although we have had an unusually hot summer, summer still went by very quickly. I’ll be sorry to miss the October Meeting because the speaker is one of my favorites. You probably remember him as the big guy with the booze. Actually “Big Frank” as he is known by his friends is one very entertaining speaker (booze or not).
A quick reminder, bring your checks for the Christmas Party. NO CASH.
As always, membership is something that needs to be mentioned. It would be great to add 6-10 new members between now and December. The October meeting with Big Frank and the November meeting honoring our military are two nice events for potential members to learn about Sir 34. Both meetings will have great vitality.
See everyone in November,
Jack Parker
Big Sir #34
Will Rogers Quote of the month:
“Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it”.
Little SIR
Adrian Verduzco
Guest Speaker
Our Guest Speaker for October is Frank Jakubka, who is a Master Sommelier. Frank spoke to our group last year about Whisky and was well received. In this presentation he will continue to share his great knowledge about wines and spirits and I’m sure his discussion will be very informative and entertaining.
Treasurer's Report
Tom Reif
Please note: If you come in late for a meeting and there is no one at the table to buy a lunch ticket, please check the sign at the table to see where a treasurer (Wendell Moen, Jack Ogden or Tom Reif) is sitting and buy your ticket. Thanks for your help.

Wine Tasters Club
Larry Lindsey
In September we met at Gary and Claudia Wanlin's home and had a delightful time sampling good wine, some great or'devours as well stimulating conversation.
We're very excited about our Wine Event for October, we spend the day and evening in Lodi on October 10th at the Wine and Roses Spa. We'll visit several wineries and enjoy an evening meal at nearby restaurant, should be fun time.
BRIDGE
CHUCK BROWN
The Bridge Group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Hacienda Motor Home Park On Vineyard Ave. in Pleasanton. In September we had three tables and the winners were:
Randy Cotton, Dick Fields and Gordon Lund.
In October , we will be meeting on Tuesday the 10th.
Dance Carl Churilo
The weather is getting much cooler in the evening nowadays. So, there is no excuse that it is too hot to dance. Majority of the dance places have A/C and huge fans. And with the temperature dropping it makes it real comfortable for dancing. So, come out and join us and if you want to learn a few simple steps we can help.
Below are dance places which I feel are very good and reasonably:
Camera Club
Don Roberts
Any questions about Camera Club get in touch with Don Roberts at 846-5145 or email [email protected]
View Camera Club Slide Show
Chaplin
Larry Brumm
Please call Larry if you hear of any SIR sick, hospitalized, or injured so he can let everyone else
know.
Sunshine
Carl Churilo
Wow, best news I that can inform our members is that we had not lost any of our members once again. If anyone hears about someone or their spouses let me know so that we can send out a card of condolence. Email me at: [email protected], or call 925-967-8177.
Beer Group
Steve Annen
Our next gathering of the beer sippers group will be at Shadow Puppet Brewery in Livermore on Thursday the 19 at 4 pm. Located at 4771 Arroyo Vista Suite B. Here's their webpage

- Merry Mixers at the Elks Club in Walnut Creek: twice a month – 1st and 3th Friday of each month, live band, smaller dance floor but fun.
