SIR Branch 34 July Newsletter
Big SIR
Jack Parker
Looks like everyone had a good time at the picnic last week. The weather was perfect and the food tasty. Once again I want to thank Joe Hernandez and his crew for all of the work they do to put on this great event. Thanks to those who showed up early to set up the tables and to those who stayed after to help clean up. Click Here to view the picnic slide show.
Remember that the picnic replaces our July meeting. We will next meet on August 3rd at the San Ramon Golf Club.
Bocce will NOT meet on the first Tuesday in July as that is the 4th. Come out for Bocce on the 18th at the Pleasanton Senior Center, 9AM for 2 hours of enjoyable companionship.
Have a pleasant summer,
Jack

Guest Speaker
Our Guest Speaker for June was Grace Crunican. Grace was appointed General Manager of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) by the BART Board of Directors in 2011. Prior to coming to BART, she was Director of the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) for eight years, the Director of the Oregon Department of Transportation for five years, and the Deputy Administrator for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for three years. Before joining the FTA, Grace led the Surface Transportation Project and prior to that she was with the City of Portland, Oregon for seven years, ending as Deputy Director of Transportation. She was a PMI with the U.S. Department of Transportation and served as professional staff for the U.S. Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee. She holds a B.A. from Gonzaga University and a MBA from Willamette University. It was a very interesting and informative presentation.

Golf
Jim Kenna
We will play Deer Ridge on Monday July 17 as Shadow Lakes is closed. It will be clear in the system.
We routinely turn in a final count to the course late Thursday or Friday before the event. Excess tee times are removed from the web and and pairings are locked late Friday. In the future, the program will remain open allowing individual late removal and signup, if space is available, without administrator assistance.
Revised Golf Schedule can be viewed here
GOLF PLEASANTON FAIRWAYS
STEVE THOMAS
Please join me for nine great holes at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds on Monday and Thursday, 8:00 AM tee off. Show up at least 15 minutes earlier for pairing.

BRIDGE
CHUCK BROWN
The Bridge Group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Hacienda Motor Home Park
on Vineyard Ave in Pleasanton. In June we had three tables and the winners were:
Chan Eason, Ron McClellan, and Frank Hamilton.
In July we will be meeting on the 11th.
I have been informed by the Homeowners Assoc. that effective January 1st 2018 we will no longer be able to use their facility for our bridge games. If anyone is aware of a location we could meet (hopefully free) please let me know or this may be the end of the bridge group.
Dance Carl Churilo
Below are dance places which I feel are very good and reasonably priced:
- Rossmoor Senior Community: last Sunday of the month, great dance floor
- DJ music, and a is only $5 per person.
- Merry Mixers at the Elks Club in Walnut Creek: twice a month – 1 st and 3 the Friday of each month, live band, smaller dance floor but fun.
- Castle Rock Restaurant, Livermore: every Sunday and Tuesday night. Live band.
- Two Left Feet, Danville, every Sunday afternoon, DJ music, and nice dance floor
If you are interested in joining us let Carl know: 925-967-8177, email [email protected] or go to http://ballroombayarea.wordpress.com/2016/03/03/may-2016 for dance events all over the Bay area.

The poker club met at Dick Small's house on Tuesday, June 27, someone mentioned that there were three bumps left. Someone else (not to be named) had a very good night, it will even out next month.

The once a month Breakfast Group
Jim Benham
About 18 of the infamous Benham boys, met at Vic's the last Wednesday in June. Lots of friendly conversation. A slight mix-up in breakfast orders. "Didn't I order the corn beef hash Carl? Oops I ordered the waffles!" A good fun time
Please see Jim Benham or e-mail him at [email protected] to get more info or to join the breakfast and/or poker club.
